Engineering Statics: Open and Interactive

Section 5.7 Equilibrium Examples

You can use these interactives to explore how the reactions supporting rigid bodies are affected by the loads applied. You can use the equations of equilibrium to solve for the unknown reactions, and check your work.

Instructions.

This interactive shows graphically how the reactions force at a pin \(A\) and roller \(B\) change as the locations and direction of external force \(P\) and the location of the roller at \(B\) change.
Click the checkbox to see the free-body diagram and the values of the reactions to check your work.
Figure 5.7.1. Rigid body Equilibrium

Instructions.

This interactive shows graphically how the reactions force and moment at fixed connection \(A\) change as the locations and direction loads \(B\) and \(C\) are changed.
Click the checkbox to see the free-body diagram and the values of the reactions to check your work.
Figure 5.7.2. Cantilever beam

Instructions.

This interactive shows graphically how the reactions force at a pin \(A\) and roller \(B\) change as in response to changes in the load C. The locations of the pin, roller and load are adjustable.
Click the checkbox to see the free-body diagram and the values of the reactions to check your work.
Figure 5.7.3. Beam with concentrated load

Instructions.

This interactive shows graphically how the reactions force at a pin \(A\) and roller \(B\) change as in response to changes load \(C\) and a couple-moment at \(D\text{.}\) The locations of the pin, roller and loads are adjustable.
Click the checkbox to see the free-body diagram and the values of the reactions to check your work.
